La Carpio

Last Sunday we visited the home of our friend Adela in La Carpio. La Carpio is an abandoned landfill where approximately 20,000 immigrants from Nicaraugua call home. On our last post we showed a video of La Carpio. On Thursday afternoons, Jeff goes to La Carpio with students from the language school to play with kids and share the Gospel.

Heather has been getting to know Adela and we did some activities with her family over the Christmas break. Here is a picture of Adela's grandaughter making Christmas cookies for the first time.

Adela lives in a tiny tin shack with three other adults and nine kids. We attended her church and then went to her house for lunch. It was really humbling to see the poverty and helped us realize how much we have recieved. The kids said that they couldn't believe how happy the kids were even though they didn't have much. And what was even more incredible is that they gave our kids some of their handful of toys when we left. We truly have a lot to be thankful for.
